What is indoor climbing?

Indoor climbing walls were initially developed by rock climbers wanting a place to train for climbing outdoors, but indoor climbing has since developed into a sport in its own right. Indoor climbing is split into bouldering and roped climbing;  for more details on both of these keep reading!

What if I just want to give climbing a try?

If you are not sure how you would take to climbing and you want to have a quick try or simply want an instructor to do all the rope work for you and your friends then we can do a taster session for you.

What if I want to learn to boulder?

Bouldering is climbing without a rope in a dedicated bouldering area, up to 4.5m in height, where there is a continuous surface of large crash matting.  If you have no previous climbing experience, we run Bouldering Inductions throughout the week, please just call the centre to book.

What if I want to learn to climb on a rope?

Roped climbing is climbing on higher walls, (up to 12.5m high in our centre), using a rope for protection if you fall and to lower the climber back to the ground. This is always done in groups of 2 or more people; one person climbing and the other person controlling the rope (“belaying”).  In order to learn the skills required to climb on the ropes unsupervised, you need to do a Climbing Induction, or one of our Beginners Climbing Courses.

More details on these courses can be found here.

How do I find out more?
