Women's Climbing in Northampton: A Friendly Way to Start

A busy climbing wall can be off-putting if you have never climbed. If that has stopped you trying it, our Ladies Social and Coaching Night is a good place to start.

What is Ladies Night?

It is a relaxed evening for women to climb together, meet other climbers and get some coaching. Some people come every month; others come along for the first time with a friend. All ages, fitness levels and abilities are welcome.

This month: Sunday 25 October at the Climbing Centre

For October, Ladies Night is being hosted at The Pinnacle Climbing Centre in Far Cotton, from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday 25 October. It is a one-month change of venue, not a permanent move.

If you have never been to the Climbing Centre, this is a good chance to see it. There is a bouldering room, auto belays and roped climbing on walls up to 12.5 metres high, and you are welcome to try all of them.

Do I need to be strong?

It is the question we hear most, and the answer is no. Climbing depends far more on balance, footwork and reading the route than on upper body strength. Many beginners get further than they expect on their first evening, and the coaches are there to help.

What if I don't know anyone?

Lots of people come on their own, and meeting other women who climb is part of the reason the night exists. There is plenty of time to chat between climbs.

What does it cost?

Ladies Night is free for members. For non-members it is included in the usual entry fee, and a single visit is £13.80. See our full prices.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any climbing experience?

No. Complete beginners are very welcome, and the coaching part of the night is designed to help you get started.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can stretch in, such as leggings or joggers and a t-shirt. Climbing shoes and equipment are available to hire.

I've never been to The Pinnacle. Can I still come?

Yes. Give us a call on 01604 875 996 before the night and we will make sure you are set up and ready to climb when you arrive.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes. Coming with a friend is a good way to try it for the first time.
