Things to Do in Northampton with Teenagers

Stuck for things to do in Northampton with teenagers? From bouldering and climbing to escape rooms and the outdoors, here are ideas that will actually get them off the sofa.

Keeping teenagers entertained over the summer is a challenge every parent knows well. They want a bit of independence, a bit of a thrill, and something that doesn't feel like it was designed for their younger siblings. The good news is that Northampton has plenty of options. Here are some of the best things to do in Northampton with teenagers this summer.

Try bouldering or climbing at The Pinnacle

Bouldering is made for teenagers. It's social, it's a proper physical challenge, and once they've had an induction there are no ropes or instructors hovering, so it feels grown up and independent. At our Bouldering Centre in Weston Favell there are 150 problems to work through, plus a training area to push themselves. If they fancy going higher, our Climbing Centre in Far Cotton has roped climbing and auto belays. The holidays tend to be quiet on the walls too, so there's space to try things without feeling watched, which teens tend to appreciate.

Escape rooms and team challenges

Teenagers love a puzzle they can crack as a group. Northampton has escape rooms that are ideal for a couple of hours of teamwork and friendly competition with friends or family.

Get outdoors and active

For fresh air, Salcey Forest's treetop walkway and the wide open spaces at Brixworth Country Park give teens room to roam. Watersports at the Nene Whitewater Centre are another option for the more adventurous.

Cinema, bowling and the shops

Sometimes the classics win. A trip to the cinema, a bowling match or an afternoon around the shops in town gives teenagers the social, low-pressure hangout they often want.

Frequently asked questions

What can teenagers do in Northampton this summer?

Bouldering and climbing at The Pinnacle, escape rooms, cinema, bowling and outdoor activities like the treetop walk at Salcey Forest are all popular with teenagers.

Is bouldering suitable for teenagers?

Yes. Bouldering is a great fit for teens once they've completed an induction. It's social, physical and lets them climb independently.

Is it busy in the school holidays?

Our centres are relaxed during the holidays, with plenty of space on the walls, so it's a great time for teenagers to try climbing without the crowds.

Give it a go

If your teenager is after a challenge this summer, bouldering is a brilliant place to start. Book an induction or session and let them climb.
