October Half Term in Northampton: Ideas for Keeping Kids Busy

Planning October half term in Northampton? Holiday climbing clubs, Clip 'n Climb and indoor activities to keep kids busy whatever the weather does.

October half term has a particular problem: the weather has turned, the evenings are dark, and a week of parks and playgrounds is no longer a realistic plan. Here are some indoor options in Northampton that will actually tire children out, whatever the last week of October throws at you.

Holiday climbing clubs

Our holiday clubs run during school holidays at The Pinnacle Climbing Centre in Far Cotton. Children climb, abseil, explore our indoor cave system and play games, all led by qualified instructors with every piece of equipment provided.

There are two lengths. The four hour club is the one to book if you need a proper chunk of the day covered, and it is popular with working parents for exactly that reason. The one and a half hour club is a shorter taster if your child has not tried climbing before or would rather not commit to a full session.

Both are open to all abilities and no experience is needed.

Book a four hour holiday club or the shorter session, and note that half term slots tend to fill before the holiday starts.

Clip 'n Climb for younger children

If you have younger children, or a group with a wide age range, Clip 'n Climb at Weston Favell Shopping Centre has 32 different climbing challenges suitable from age 2 upwards. The auto belay system means no experience and no climbing partner is needed, and sessions are 90 minutes.

It is inside the shopping centre, which is handy if you want to combine it with the rest of a rainy afternoon.

Just come and climb

You do not have to book a structured session. The Bouldering Centre at Weston Favell has themed kids climbing rooms and a dedicated beginners area, and families can climb together after a family induction. Children can boulder from age 4 once the family has been signed off.

Other indoor options in Northampton

Beyond climbing, the town has bowling and arcades at Sixfields, free entry at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery, family films and theatre at Royal and Derngate, and escape rooms for older children and teenagers. Between those and an active session, most of a wet half term week can be filled.

Book early

October half term is a shorter holiday than the summer, so places go faster. Check your school's exact dates, as they vary slightly between schools, and get the sessions you need booked before the week arrives.
