Indoor Climbing for Beginners: What to Expect on Your First Visit
New to climbing? Here's what to expect on your first visit to The Pinnacle in Northampton, from what to wear to how a Taster Session and induction work.
Trying indoor climbing for the first time can feel a little daunting, but there's really nothing to worry about. If you're planning your first visit to The Pinnacle in Northampton, here's exactly what to expect so you can turn up feeling confident.
Do I need any experience?
Not at all. Our centres welcome complete beginners every day. The best place to start is a Taster Session or an induction, where a friendly instructor shows you the basics and stays with you as you find your feet.
What should I wear?
Comfy clothes you can move in are all you need, along with a pair of trainers to start. We provide climbing shoes and any other equipment, so there's nothing special to buy for your first visit.
Climbing or bouldering, what's the difference?
Bouldering is climbing lower walls with thick safety mats below and no ropes, so it's simple to pick up and very social. Roped climbing takes you higher using ropes and harnesses. Both are great for beginners, and our team will help you choose the right starting point.
Is it safe?
Yes. Safety is built into everything we do. You'll be shown how to climb and land safely, all our equipment is checked regularly, and instructors are on hand throughout your session.
How busy will it be?
During the summer holidays our centres are lovely and relaxed, with plenty of space on the walls. That makes it a great time to learn without feeling rushed or watched.
