Your Child Loved Holiday Club. What Next?
If your child caught the climbing bug at a holiday club, a weekly club is the next step. Here is how RockeeZ works, what ages it covers and how to try it.
If your child spent the summer holidays climbing and has not stopped talking about it since, you are not alone. Every year we watch children arrive at a holiday club having never touched a climbing wall, and leave asking when they can come back. Here is what to do with that enthusiasm once term starts.
Why climbing sticks with children
Climbing is unusual among children's activities because progress is visible. There is no waiting on a bench and no being picked last. A child either gets to the top of a route or they get further than last time, and either way they can see it. That immediate feedback is what turns a one-off holiday session into a genuine interest.
It also suits children who have not clicked with team sports. Climbing is social but you compete mainly against the wall and against your own last attempt, which takes the pressure off enormously.
From holiday club to weekly club
Our holiday clubs and our weekly RockeeZ Climbing Club cover much the same ground: rope climbing, bouldering, abseiling, cave exploration and games, all led by qualified instructors with equipment provided. The difference is what happens over time.
A holiday club is a brilliant taster. RockeeZ is where children actually build skill, because they come back every week during term time and work through a structured syllabus rather than starting fresh each visit.
What RockeeZ Climbing Club involves
RockeeZ runs weekly hour-long sessions during term time at The Pinnacle Climbing Centre in Far Cotton. Children are grouped into four age bands, 4 to 6, 7 to 10, 11 to 13 and 14 to 16, so they are always with children at a similar stage.
Sessions follow the NICAS syllabus, the national scheme for indoor climbing. Every child gets a personal logbook and works towards recognised certificates as they progress. For a lot of children that logbook becomes the thing that keeps them going, because progress is written down and there is always a next level to reach.
Is my child ready for a weekly club?
If they enjoyed a holiday club, they are ready. RockeeZ takes complete beginners from age 4 and there is no requirement to have climbed before, so children who did a single holiday session are already ahead.
The four age bands matter more than experience. A seven-year-old who has climbed once and a seven-year-old who has climbed twenty times will both fit into the same group and progress at their own pace.
What it costs and how to try it
The best way to find out whether it suits your child is to come along to a session first. Book a trial at RockeeZ and see how they get on before committing to anything.
Frequently asked questions

Can we try a session before signing up?
Yes, you can book a trial session so your child can try it before you commit.
